Singapore National Day Parade 2020
NDP 2020 changed and shaped the way we came together and celebrate the Nation’s 55th birthday because of the Covid-19 pandemic, moving from a massive physical platform to semi-digital channels, while still maintaining the key elements of the parade.
Some of the key elements of the annual parade had been scaled down to adhere to the safe distancing measure, but the National Day Parade (NDP) committee were committed to bring the best through live streaming on social media channels!
All of the events highlights were marked for us to continue to feel like right at Padang!
The highlights include iconic Fireworks Display in the hearthlands at various locations, the Red Lion’s Landing Zones, and the most anticipated Singapore Armed Forces Mobile Column featuring the latest military and civil defence vehicles.
Even I was also excited for the Maritime Sailpast as it returns to the NDP after 20 years!
NDP Interactive Map
An interactive map was developed by GovTech to provides real time update on the happenings.
You could also post your birthday wish for Singapore on the map, and be part of the nation's celebrations across the island. Some of the wishes were from overseas.
NDP Fun Pack e-Vouchers
A good marketing strategy is of course to include discount! Due to the pandemic, there were no physical vouchers in the fun pack as it is all e-Vouchers. Just flash the e-Vouchers from your phone to utilise at the participating merchants. https://discounts.life.gov.sg/
Get Featured!
This instruction on TikTok tells us how to post our well wishes on social media so it might get a chance to be featured on the NDPeeps YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram pages!
Connect with Others
You could also participate with the hashtag #OurHeartForSG in your stories or well wishes to connect with everyone on social media.
The marketing objectives
Even though we can not watch it live at the stadium, padang or the float, there were many points of engagement with the audiences through live coverage and social media. There were even overseas Singaporean sharing their wishes in the digital platform.
By making full use of SEO, SEM and hashtag#, many of the digital contents are generated by everyone rather than just the organiser, thus making it feels like we are really together even though we are physically apart because of the social distancing guidelines.
With all that said, I hope this year in 2021 the NDP will be even better!
